BEFORE:
The living room had lost much of its original character, as previous owners had stripped away many of the period details that were still present in the rest of the home. The client’s main goal was to restore some of this charm, particularly by reinstating a central fireplace to bring back a focal point and create a sense of warmth.

The room, entered from the hallway and open-plan onto the kitchen, posed challenges for furniture placement and flow between the two spaces. The client struggled to make the space functional and cohesive, as the layout didn’t lend itself easily to a natural arrangement. With doorways that were off-centre and awkwardly positioned, it was difficult for them to figure out how to create a sense of balance.

AFTER:
This living room underwent a stunning transformation, despite being an e-design project completed entirely through virtual collaboration. Olivia Overvoorde Studio provided expert guidance on layout and design choices remotely. A mix of soft, neutral tones enhances the natural light, creating a calm and inviting atmosphere. The existing sofa was kept as a key piece, and the rest of the room's textures and colours were chosen to harmonise with the flow of the adjacent kitchen.

A round coffee table and jute rug soften the room’s appearance, diverting the eye from the room’s off-centre doorways and straight lines, making the space feel more balanced. The focal point of the room is the newly reinstated fireplace, now framed beautifully by understated yet elegant decor. The thoughtful combination of materials and textures—from the warmth of the wood and woven rug to the plush seating—brings depth and interest to the space. The striking modern chandelier and carefully sourced accent pieces elevate the design, while the overall focus on materials ensures that every detail adds to the room’s aesthetic without overpowering the space.
